Ice cream during a Houston summer is almost as essential as air conditioning.  As a special ode to this frozen treat, these local area restaurants are celebrating National Ice Cream Month throughout July and National Ice Cream Day on July 19 with special deals and unique sweets proven to beat the heat.
1801 Binz Street
Complete your stroll through the Museum District with a visit to Bosta.  Put a little pep in your step and satisfy your sweet tooth with an Affogato ($7.50), made with local ice creams – a choice of vanilla bean or spicy dark chocolate – from Cloud 10 Creamery paired with freshly brewed Pappa New Guinea espresso from Pearland Coffee Roasters.
5216 Morningside Drive
Indulge in one of America’s favorite desserts, the ice cream sundae, at Cloud 10 Creamery.  Chef Chris Leung will be paying homage to the scoop with a special National Ice Cream Month Sundae priced at $5.80 through July 31.  Grab a spoon and dive into ginaduja semifreddo and Nutella ice cream with marshmallow topped with potato chip crumbles, whipped cream and house-made peach sauce.
800 Sorella Court
After a day of shopping at CITYCENTRE, a visit to Hotel Sorella is always a nice treat.  On July 21, it’s also a sweet one.  Cool down and catch up with friends in the Lobby Lounge over complimentary ice cream samplings available throughout the day while supplies last.
24 Waterway Avenue
Hubbell & Hudson Bistro’s Pastry Chef Nguyet Nguyen is serving up a dessert that packs a punch.  Skip the post dinner port and opt for The Pearing made with beer soaked pears, local honey butterscotch polenta cake and apple cider ice cream.  The Pearing is priced at $8.

Radio Milano’s Executive Chef Jose Hernandez began his career as a pastry chef, and his delicate and decadent desserts never disappoint.  For National Ice Cream Month, the acclaimed toque showcases a Buttermilk Panna Cotta ($9) that reinforces the restaurant’s Italian flair with its combination of basil ice cream, almonds, strawberries and balsamic.  If chocolate is what you’re craving, opt for the Tartufo ($12), made with chocolate shortbread, pistachio semifreddo and cherries.
2222 West Loop South
Getting out of the heat and into The Galleria?  A stop at Royal Sonesta Houston’s chic Axis Lounge or ARA restaurant are perfect spots to conclude a day of retail therapy with a chilly cocktail plus Executive Chef Peter Laufer’s Apple Galette accompanied by vanilla ice cream.
1224 N. Post Oak Drive, Suite 100
Yellow Rose Distilling celebrates National Ice Cream Month with their inaugural Spiked by the Scoop challenge on Thursday, July 23 from 6:30 – 9 pm.  The evening will showcase frozen treats - shakes, sundaes and sandwiches – with a decidedly adult twist. More than a dozen teams are vying to freeze out the completion with their boozy treats while raising funds for Small Steps Nurturing Center.  Tickets are $35 in advance at www.spikedbythescoop.eventbrite.com or $40 at the door, and the cost includes entertainment, raffle ticket plus food and drink samplings.
