Planting seedlings in your garden helps you get a jump-start on the seasons.

This workshop will introduce students to fundamental principles for successfully starting, or redesigning, their own backyard garden. These principles include discussion of Houston climate and growing seasons, the best soil types for your garden, how to design a garden that will work best for your lifestyle, which plants and plant varietals will make you a successful backyard gardener, and a brief introduction to composting. Students will enjoy an Intro to Backyard Gardening presentation followed by an interactive tour of the Sown & Grown demonstration gardens at Houston Makerspace. Students will leave empowered to begin their own backyard gardening adventures successfully.
