Giving homemade gifts is a special tradition in our home. We enjoy giving heartfelt gifts made with our very own hands. It adds a special touch to let our loved ones know just how much we care about them.

Food is so comforting—so connected with all that symbolizes love, nurture, caring and home. So, we make and give edible homemade gifts often. These are some of our family favorites.

Every year we pick wild plums from our 30-year-old plum trees together and make this deliciously sweet plum jelly to share. The hot cocoa recipe is something we created to sip while singing Christmas carols around the tree. The peppermint bark is something new—which we love! The decadent dark chocolate mixed with the peppermint—in a crunchy bite-sized candy is the perfect mix of sweet and cool—like a winter’s breeze.

Making handmade gifts is such a special way to encourage the true meaning of the season—giving to others. Spending time together as a family, working in the kitchen with our children—these are gifts in themselves.
