Compost helps rejuvenate tired soils and dirt. Applying healthy compost will restore the beneficial microbiology to your garden or farm.

Composting Fundamentals will introduce students to the wonderful world of soil science and the role of compost in building healthy soil systems. Understanding the fundamentals of compost as it relates to soil building is the best tool any gardener has for successfully growing hardy plants sustainably. Key principles this class will cover include defining good compost, understanding how compost benefits our soil structure, distinguishing the two main methods for composting (Active vs. Static), how to set up your own home system, and troubleshooting techniques to keep our compost systems healthy. This class also includes an interactive tour of the Houston Makerspace Demonstration Garden compost systems. Students will leave empowered to start their very own compost system that day.
