Examples of legacy agricultural operations and their current impact at KPC are

Nelson Farms Preserve: The Nelson family still utilizes the conserved property for the production of rice, soybeans, cattle and crayfish; home to migrating wetland birds like Canada and snow geese that use the flooded rice fields as their home.

Warren Ranch: One of the largest remaining working cattle ranches on the Gulf Coast prairie, where cattle operations stimulate growth of prairie plants and their diversification that attracts migrating birds such as warblers, geese, ducks and even bald eagles.

Williams Prairie Preserve: Once a commercial hay operation, it now provides a large expanse of diverse native bluestem, paspalum and Indian grasses, wildflowers and wetlands for butterflies and birds, including great and snowy egrets, little and great blue herons and roseate spoonbills.
