Ingredients

SERVINGS: Makes 12
  • 2½ sticks unsalted butter
  • 1½ cups plain flour
  • 1½ cups oatmeal
  • 1¼ cups brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • 14 ounces caramels
  • 6 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 12 ounces dark chocolate chips

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350°F. Melt the butter in microwave (melt 1 minute, stir, continue, until all melted). Add the flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, salt and baking soda. Mix well.

Set aside 1 cup of the butter mixture. Press remaining mixture into a 9- by 13-inch baking pan. Bake 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, put caramels and cream into a glass bowl and melt in microwave (melt 1 minute, stir, continue, until all melted).

Sprinkle chocolate chips onto partially baked crust. Top with the melted caramels and crumble remaining cup of flour mixture on top.

Bake for 15–20 minutes. Let cool and cut into squares.
