How these traits apply to the Sales Representative position

Working remotely: This position calls for someone capable of working remotely + working with Sales Manager remotely, in office, in the field and on the go. Working remotely requires discipline; someone who is a self-starter and hard worker

People person: The Sales Representative is expected to constantly meet and network with business leaders to market and represent the brand, bring in prospective business and close deals. You need to like people—wallflowers need not apply. 

Communication: The ability to effectively communicate in the written and spoken word is vital for success in this position. As an agent of the publication, communication is the core of the Edible Houston brand and we expect our representatives to be effective communicators in everything they do. 

Vision: The ability to actively listen to prospect/customer needs, wants and goals allows you to recommend appropriate products. We seek a person who has the vision to not only see the now but to think long-term for the customer and get creative in the development of an engaging campaign.

Critical thinking: The Edible Houston Sales Representative must have the ability to evaluate a customer’s needs and develop the best campaign for them. We need someone who can think on their feet in the field, troubleshoot challenges and recognize opportunities. 

Organized: We are looking for someone who is organized and has the ability to see projects through. Communication with prospects/customers + Edible Houston staff must be thoughtful and organized. The Sales Representative will be required to follow the processes we have in place.

Attitude: Getting to work with local Houston businesses that mirror our mission + core values is an exciting opportunity. We are a resource for them and their business. Having a positive attitude, confidence in yourself and in Edible Houston’s products is how we attract and give the customer the confidence to buy. We are looking for someone that we would buy from. Grumpy people need not apply.

The Edible Houston Sales Representative will be trained on the Edible Houston brand, products and sales practices with the Sales Manager. The Sales Representative will be asked to attend staff trainings + meetings, train in the field with the Sales Manager, travel to customer meetings, prospect daily and attend networking opportunities.

To be successful in this position: The Edible Houston Sales Representative will have great time-management skills, be ready to embrace sales trainings and be eager to learn.

Edible Houston’s Wants

We are looking for someone who is familiar with the Edible Houston magazine and brand. We would love someone who is passionate about the Houston food and beverage scene and/or someone who is active in the community. Having a background of knowledge in advertising and marketing is preferred. 

Requirements of the job: 

Transportation + Insurance

  • The Edible Houston Sales Representative must provide their own transportatn and have appropriate insurance.

Equipment 

  • The Edible Houston Sales Representative will be responsible for providing their own computer, cell phone and access to the internet.

Independent Contractor 

  • This position is considered an independent contractor. Sales Representative is responsible for paying their own taxes and insurance.

Compensation:

Edible Houston provides a generous commission plan along with a small base
