It has finally stopped raining and we are so close to putting our first issue to bed (publisher speak for sending it to the printer and not having any opportunity to change a word or a page - it's done!). As a first-time publisher, I didn't appreciate how all encompassing putting a magazine together would be. Every day there's something new I didn't know I'd have to do or learn - damn learning! Don't get me wrong, it has been so rewarding - and fun - I can't imagine doing anything else.

This first issue has been such an incredible journey for me - I've heard great story pitches from terrific writers, spoken with so many dedicated business owners anxious to support the local food movement, learned how to conduct a social media campaign by having a pro take over that task (thanks, Laurie) and had the opportunity to attend some great events. Although I miss my friends back in New Jersey, I am feeling more like I'm home in Houston. Thank you for making me feel welcome - y'all inspire me to explore all that Texas has to offer. Big Bend during spring break was breathtakingly beautiful - I've never been to a desert before!

Stay tuned for some great events we have planned (May 13 is our launch party). Looking forward to meeting y'all soon.

Cheers,
Kim
