Goat Cheese and Jam
If you think soft goat cheese on a toasted slice of crusty sourdough is great, add a lick of blueberry, merlot & ghost pepper jam, and you will want nothing more. I picked up a jar of this jam at Home Sweet Farm farmers market in Brenham. Housed in a restored historical building in downtown Brenham, a stone’s throw from Blue Bell Ice Cream, Home Sweet Farm is packed with local products. High Octane is a company based in Katy that uses local and seasonal fruits and chilies to create jams, rubs, marinades, and sauces with varying degrees of heat.
Ghost pepper has the reputation of being the “hottest of the bunch”. In this jam, the ghost pepper gives a fiery punch alright, but mellowed with the fruity sweetness of the blueberries, it is a heat that only tickles the taste buds for more. You can taste the fruit-driven merlot in the background. The jar didn’t last very long. From adding to sauce and vinaigrette to spooning it on every other slice of bread with cheese, the jam was gone in no time.
