Açai Bowl - a Brazilian treat!

Açai is a small, dark purple Brazilian berry that is abundant in the the Amazon forest. It has a high level of antioxidant activity, and among its various nutrients it is mostly famous for its high levels of iron, calcium, fiber, and vitamin A. Although the raw berry is not exported from Brazil, açai pulp can be bought in Houston in both Whole Foods and Costco. This pulp also contains the high levels of nutrients of the berry.

Instructions

Açai bowls are a delicious way to get all the nutritional benefits of Açai. Below is a recipe for my favorite combination:

Ingredients:

For mixture:

   - One packet of unsweetened organic Açai pulp

   - One frozen banana

   - One cup of almond milk

Blend ingredients until mixture attains a smooth and creamy consistency. If mixture does not blend, add more almond milk.

Note: I make açai mixtures with banana because it counteracts the strong açai flavor while also making the mixture sweet. If banana is not preferred, other great options are mango, strawberries or blueberries.

Toppings:

   - Coconut flakes

   - Unsalted almond butter

   - Goji berries

   - Raw granola

Note: Although these toppings taste amazing and provide a great combination of nutrients, I encourage you to be creative and experiment new flavors with additional toppings!
