We're celebrating the region’s best loved food leaders.
Here’s your opportunity to recognize the hard work your favorite food and farming organizations and businesses have put into championing farm fresh, locally-produced food in the greater Houston area. Edible Houston's annual Local Hero Awards are “people’s choice” awards, nominated and voted on by you, our readers, which makes this award all the more meaningful to the recipients. One vote per email address.
Any Texas food or farming organizations and businessess serving the Greater Houston area are eligible to be nominated. Previous Local Hero winners ARE NOT eligible to win in the same category (for the past two years). Please do not renominate past winners for the same category, their nomination will not qualify. 2018 winners here. 2017 winners here.
Nominees for the Local Hero Awards should demonstrate leadership in our communities in the following ways:
- Responsible environmental and social practices
- High quality products and services
- Positive economic impact
- Commitment to building a robust local food system
Awards are granted in the following categories:
- Farm
- Farmers Market
- Farmers Market Vendor
- Chef
- Bartender or Sommelier
- Restaurant
- Food Truck
- Food Shop Specialty
- Food Artisan
- Beverage Artisan (alcoholic)
- Beverage Artisan (non-alcoholic)
- Non-Profit Food Organization
How are finalists determined?
After the nomination period closes, edible staff compile all nominations. Three semi-finalists with the most individual nominations from each category will move on to the final public voting round, which will open on May 15, 2019.
How are the award winners chosen?
We determine winners through an online public voting which will run May 15 through September 13, 2019. Finalists with the most votes win.
What’s the prize for the winners?
We invite winners to our annual awards ceremony to be held on September 15 at Winter Street at Sawyer Yards. Every year we work with local artists to design custom awards for the winners, and give them to recipients during the ceremony.
